Professor Dr Carlos Van Mieghem, MD, PhD, FESC is former staff member of the department of Interventional Cardiology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, former staff member and director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the department of Cardiology OLV Hospital Aalst, Belgium and currently staff member at the Cardiology department AZ Groeninge Kortrijk, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, member of the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO), and consultant Lifestyle Medicine Specialist at Medisch Centrum Leie, Belgium.
He studied medicine magna cum laude at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and obtained board certification in internal medicine, cardiology and intensive care medicine. He then trained in cardiovascular research, interventional cardiology and cardiac CT imaging at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
His practice focusses on prevention, Lifestyle Medicine, interventional cardiology and cardiac imaging (CT and MRI).
His academic career started in 2003 with the public defence of his PhD thesis “CT coronary angiography: validation and clinical implementation”.
