Prof. Athanasios Jamurtas
Professor in Exercise Biochemistry, University of Thessaly, Greece
Professor Jamurtas received his bachelor degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1988.
In 1993 he received his MSc degree from Syracuse University majoring in Exercise Physiology and in 1997 earned his Ph.D. from University in North Carolina at Greensboro with a major in Exercise Physiology/Biochemistry and a minor in Nutrition.
He joined University of Thessaly as a Lecturer in 2001 and after being promoted to Assistant and Associate professor in 2006 and 2011, respectively, was promoted to full professor in 2016.
He is the Director of the Post Graduate Program of Studies “Exercise and Health: Assessment and Prescription” and the Director of the Exercise biochemistry, Physiology and Nutrition Laboratory (SmArT Lab).
He served for 4 years as the Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of University of Thessaly.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
He has published more than 200 papers in refereed scientific journals and has been cited more than 15000 times in the scientific literature.
He enjoys long distance running during his free time.
