Dr. Panagiotis Bargiotas MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Neurology, Medical School of the University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus
Dr. Bargiotas received his neurological clinical training and developed doctoral and postdoctoral work at the Universities of Heidelberg (Germany) and Bern (Switzerland).
He is a Board-certified specialist in Neurology (German Medical Board Certification) and Certified Sleep Specialist (European Sleep Research Association 2018).
His teaching experience includes teaching at the Universities of Heidelberg (DE), Bern (CH), NKUA (GR), Democritus University of Thrace (GR), University of Oxford (UK). He has supervised >8 doctoral and master medical theses (DE, CH) and was successful in acquiring a total of >€ 1.5M in Research Grants as PI or Co-PI in various projects.
His research work broadly concentrates on sleep and motion - more specifically, on the neurobiology of sleep-wake disturbances in patients with Parkinson’s disease, neurodegenerative disorders and stroke. Research methodology includes the use of sleep neurophysiology, wearable home-based and in-clinic technology and computational methodology.
In parallel, he is also addressing the impact of pharmacological, non-pharmacological and interventional (i.e. deep brain stimulation) therapies on sleep-wake disturbances and movement disorders.
